Nissan Versa Sedan

Compact sedans are all the rage, with a host of new entries from both domestic and import manufacturers reaching showrooms recently. Nissan will cash in on that popularity with the 2012 Versa sedan, debuting today at the New York auto show with refreshed styling and tweaks to improve fuel economy.
The 2012 Versa rides on an evolution of the last car's platform called V, for Versatile. The sedan's wheelbase and width are unchanged from the current model, but it loses about an inch of length and height. Despite this, Nissan says that packaging improvements for the engine and transaxle mean there is more trunk space. The new car also should be marginally lighter than before.

Styling-wise, the new Versa takes cues from the larger Altima and Maxima sedans, starting with a new grille design and oval-shaped headlights, and continued with a smoother rear and reshaped taillights that sweep from the rear bumper to the Versa's rear haunches. The hood and sides are broken up by an assortment of creased character lines akin to those seen on the Hyundai Elantra. Whereas the old Versa had a more conventional flat roof and steep rear window, the new car's roofline gently slopes toward the trunk, following the coupe-like trend. The exterior changes reportedly help achieve a low 0.31 drag coefficient.

Volvo Truck Mileage 1 Million Km Without Replace Clutch

An experienced truck driver Phil Moore recently completed a 1 million mile journey by truck Volvo. Hebatya, this trip uses only one clutch only, without ever being replaced.

Phil runs for seven years using six-axle Volvo FM. He worked for EBC Brakes as a consignor. Phil had just returned from the Netherlands recently. The busy schedule took him around Europe such as Holland, Bristol, Leeds and Hawick. And being able to reach around 2,700 miles a week.

"When I drive, I never stepped on the clutch. When I stopped at traffic lights, I always put the handbrake. This is a great achievement because, according to Volvo dealers, truck like this could have a clutch of three or more sets," said Moore as autoevolution reported on Saturday (08/06/2011).

Volvo FM Phil is the second truck, equipped with 9-liter engine that produces 300 hp solid. The truck, purchased from new in 2003, is managed by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia Dealerpoint Kettering. Phil get the long life of the clutch with careful driving style. This is both a proven fact that Volvo does well.

Honda Accord Crosstour 2011

The 2011 Honda Accord Crosstour is the best car for you if you want a friendly galoot of a four-door hatchback that drives far better than meets the eye. The 2011 Honda Accord Crosstour gets a slightly rearranged dashboard layout but otherwise carries over unchanged. The 2011 Crosstour represents the sophomore edition of a radical Honda that turns the Accord sedan into a new-age crossover SUV station wagon. Priced in the $31,000-$37,000 range, Crosstour seats five in roomy comfort and is available with all-wheel drive (AWD). Honda calls this bulbous-tail fastback a crossover utility vehicle and bravely casts it as the flagship of the Accord line. The 2011 Accord Crosstour is aimed at taste-makers who have a family and dont want a three-row SUV. There apparently are not legions of those folks in the market for a new car Crosstour sales have been modest. Wait for the 2012 Crosstour if youre keen on a four-cylinder version and want to roll the dice that Honda will introduction one for model-year 2012. The 2011 Crosstour comes only with a V-6. That helps keep its starting price several thousand dollars above that of its closest rival, the Toyota Venza, which offers both four- and six-cylinder engines and handily outsells the Crosstour. Buy the 2011 Accord Crosstour if youre not in a gambling mood and envision a role in your life for this atypical but appealing stew of automotive genres. Barring introduction of a four-cylinder model, the 2012 Accord Crosstour isnt expected to gain any features worth waiting for, though it could represent the final year before Honda treats this crossover to freshened styling.

The 2011 Honda Accord Crosstours styling is a carbon copy of the 2010 models. Crosstour is a four-door hatchback with a trendy coupe-like roofline. Its based on the underbody structure of the midsize Accord sedan and shares the cars basic dashboard design and cabin dcor. Crosstour doesnt have an SUV-tall step-in height but does ride higher than the Accord sedan and has a more commanding seating position. Its wheelbase the distance between the front and rear axles is virtually identical to the sedans. And though the body bears an Accord-family resemblance its designed to convey a more powerful presence. Crosstour is slightly wider and longer than the Accord sedan and is a significant 8 inches taller, for much more interior volume. This is a commodious passenger compartment outfitted in high-quality materials. Crosstours hatch lid lifts to reveal 25.7 cubic feet of nicely finished cargo space, double the volume of Accords trunk. Crosstour has 51.3 cubic feet with the 60/40 split rear seatbacks folded, but similarly sized competitors with less-slanted tailgate shapes, such as the Toyota Venza and Subaru Outback, have more than 60 cubic feet of cargo space. In the only model-year 2011 change, Honda slightly reconfigures the central portion of Crosstours dashboard, moving some of the more frequently used climate controls defroster buttons, for example closer to the driver and creating a more compact audio array. Its a minor but welcome change that more logically groups Crosstours rather abundant number of switches and knobs. The 2011 Honda Accord Crosstour continues with a three-model lineup: EX, upscale EX-L, and top-of-the-line EX-L with navigation, which Honda calls the EX-L Navi. The only styling distinction is that the EX has 17-inch alloy wheels and the EX-Ls have fancier 18-inch alloys. Fuel-economy ratings for the 2011 Honda Accord Crosstour get a slight bump over their 2010 ratings. With front-wheel drive, the 2011 Crosstour remains rated at 18/27 mpg city/highway. With AWD, the 2011 Crosstour is slightly more fuel efficient than its 2010 counterpart at 18/26 mpg compared to 17/25. The Crosstour runs on regular-octane gas.

Crosstour borrows Accords most powerful engine and fortifies its suspension to support an additional 300 pounds of curb weight (an additional 500 pounds with AWD). A four-cylinder engine isnt consistent with Hondas initial positioning of the Crosstour, so the 2011 model returns with a 3.5-liter V-6 as its sole engine. It has 271 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque and is equipped with Hondas Variable Cylinder Management system, which automatically runs it on three or four cylinders to save gas in low-demand cruising. Honda reserves six-speed automatic transmissions for cars from its premium Acura division, leaving the 2011 Crosstour to repeat with a five-speed automatic. This transmission lacks manual-gear-control via a separate shifter gate or steering wheel paddles but does benefit from Hondas new shift-logic programming for better engine-speed management, particularly during cornering. Like the Accord, Crosstour has front-wheel drive, but unlike the car, its available with all-wheel drive. While Venza makes AWD available even on its lowest-priced four-cylinder model, Honda reserves it as an extra-cost feature for the top-line Crosstour EX-L. Typical of a crossover AWD system, Crosstours defaults to front-wheel drive but can automatically shuffle power between front and rear wheels to sustain traction. Crosstour has an SUV-credible 8.1 inches of ground clearance (a couple of aero-enhancing plastic tabs below the front bumper hang lower), but it isnt designed for off-road use. Towing capacity is a modest 1,500 pounds. In all, Crosstour drives and rides like the slightly inflated Accord that it is and thats a good thing. Alert V-6 acceleration and athletic road manners distinguish Accord among midsize sedans and the same virtues help Crosstour drive with more precision than midsize crossovers with more conventional-SUV styling and the taller center of gravity that entails. Factory options are not part of Hondas marketing strategy. The carmaker instead equips each model in a lineup with a specific set of features based on careful study of buyer preference. The policy simplifies assembly and therefore promotes quality, though it does compel Honda shoppers to sometimes climb the model ladder to acquire a desired feature and in the process, pay for items they might not otherwise have purchased. The 2011 Honda Accord Crosstour doesnt deviate from this plan. It continues with a nice array of standard features while again reserving perks like leather upholstery and a navigation system for the uplevel EX-L model. Among features standard on all 2011 Crosstours: dual-zone automatic climate control, heated mirrors, power moonroof, power front seats, and manual tilt/telescope steering wheel with audio and cruise buttons. Antilock four-wheel disc brakes, traction and antiskid control, torso-protecting front side airbags, and head-protecting curtain side airbags also are standard. The standard audio system is a 360-watt unit with seven speakers and an iPod auxiliary jack. EX-L models add Bluetooth cell-phone linking and a USB iPod interface. EX-L Navi models get the navigation system with voice activation and a rearview backup camera.

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 debuted at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show. It is the highest-performing Camaro and the most technically advanced car ever developed in its class. The new ZL1 continues the momentum of Camaro, propelling it into an entirely new realm of leading-edge performance technology. It is planned to launch at the beginning of 2012.
Motivated by a supercharged V-8 engine producing an estimated 550 horsepower (410 kW), the Camaro ZL1 will be the fastest Camaro ever offered by Chevrolet. And more than just power, the ZL1 features technologically advanced and highly developed chassis and suspension systems that help it deliver balanced, track-ready handling and braking power to complement its high engine output. Rigorous development of the ZL1 is ongoing, and official estimates of the cars capabilities will be released later in 2011, as testing nears completion.
Camaro ZL1 is about high-tech performance and design, and is a type of car no one has ever brought to this segment previously, said Rick Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. Its the most technically advanced Camaro ever, so weve chosen a name from the most elite and exclusive Camaro in history.
The ZL1 name is derived from the all-aluminum racing engine of the same name, which was developed in the late 1960s and installed into a handful of regular-production 1969 Camaros. Only 69 were built with the engine, but theyve achieved mythical status among enthusiasts, as they represented the pinnacle in Camaro performance until now. The 2012 ZL1 model is designed to be a major leap forward for the Camaro, bringing a new level of performance capability to the segment.

The central goal of the cars development was creating something new a Camaro intended to reach optimal lap times on top road-racing circuits and excellent driving dynamics on the street. To achieve that goal, engineers evolved many of the existing Camaros systems, as well as incorporated new technologies such as electric power steering and Magnetic Ride Control, the worlds fastest-reacting suspension system.
Camaro ZL1s design communicates and supports its performance mission. Rather than using decorative elements, ZL1 is visually differentiated from other current Camaro models with elements vital to the cars elevated capabilities.
Everything about the ZL1s design is directly related to its technology and serious performance, especially aerodynamics, said Ed Welburn, vice president, Global Design. Our designers goal was to execute that function-oriented design with beautifully sculpted forms, creating an imposing, powerful persona. Function becomes the aesthetic. The intent is a car that delivers on the attitude it projects.
Major elements of the ZL1s design are a new front fascia and hood with air extractors, designed in tandem to create aerodynamic downforce to aid handling. The cars hood includes a signature center section constructed of carbon fiber and rendered in satin black finish. New rocker panels, wide tires, 20-inch wheels and exhaust tips portray the cars handling and power.
The ZL1 badge appears on the grille, hood and the brake calipers, all key areas portraying the technology within.
Tech overview.
Supporting the dynamic track and street performance of the ZL1 is the LSA 6.2L supercharged engine, which will produce an estimated 550 horsepower (410kW) and 550 lb.-ft. of torque (677 Nm), with specific features for the Camaro. Built on GMs legendary all-aluminum, small-block V-8 architecture, the LSA features an intercooled supercharger system, premium heat-resistant aluminum-alloy cylinder heads and other details designed to ensure its exceptional performance is delivered with smoothness and refinement. Components and design elements that contribute to the LSAs performance include:
 Balanced, lightweight reciprocating assembly
 High-strength hypereutectic pistons
Sixth-generation Eaton supercharger with four-lobe rotors
 Piston oil squirters.
Because the Camaro ZL1 uses electric power steering, the engine does not incorporate a conventional hydraulic power steering pump on its accessory drive system. This enhances performance, because no engine power is used to turn a steering pump pulley.
Camaro ZL1 is a complete high-performance car, not just a Camaro with more power. Key technical highlights include:
Transmission The high-performance Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual is matched with the LSA engine. It is the MG9 version of the transmission, with a higher torque capacity. It is used with a dual-mass flywheel and twin-disc clutch for easy operation and shift smoothness. A new, shorter-throw shifter actuates the gear changes.
Exhaust ZL1 is equipped with a dual-mode exhaust system, which alters the sound level and character in response to engine rpm. First used on the legendary Corvette, and specifically tuned for Camaro ZL1, the dual-mode exhaust will give the car a signature sound.
Drivetrain It is revised with a stronger driveshaft and rear axle system, featuring a larger and stronger cast iron differential housing, stronger axles and heavy-duty limited-slip differential. This patent-pending system is designed to ensure that ZL1s tremendous power is delivered smoothly to the ground.
Suspension The suspension features completely revised tuning and the inclusion of segment-exclusive Magnetic Ride Control. ZL1s Magnetic Ride system will include driver selectable modes (Tour and Sport) tailored for the preferred style of driving. It uses advanced magneto-rheological science to produce shock damping with the highest level of precision, enabling body control optimized for excellent performance in everyday driving as well as track situations. This technology appears on only a small roster of some of the worlds finest performance cars. Other chassis elements are redesigned to support the cars high-performance limits. Rear stabilizer bars have drop links repositioned outboard of the control arms. This makes the bars more effective in controlling body roll in turns, with crisp response to driver commands.
Brakes and Steering Camaro ZL1 features an advanced track-capable braking system, developed in conjunction with experts from Brembo. The large 14.6-inch (370 mm) two-piece front rotors have six-piston calipers; the 14.4-inch (365 mm) rear rotors have four-piston calipers. ZL1 marks the entry of a new electric power steering system to Camaro. It is being developed to ensure precise control and feedback to the driver, with greater variability of effort for high-performance driving.
Exterior ZL1s signature from the front is the redesigned fascia and aluminum hood with a raised, carbon fiber insert. The fascia includes a front splitter and new vertical fog lamps. The fog lamp area includes air intakes designed for brake cooling. The hood features front-mounted air extractors that direct air precisely over the car. Visually, this center section, in satin black carbon fiber, communicates the cars high-performance intent as a visual contrast to the cars exterior color. Functionally, the air extractor is a key in connecting airflow closely to the bodywork, creating aerodynamic downforce. The carbon fiber center section reduces the mass of the hood. Ford Fiesta

Ford's hot-selling new Ford Fiesta will deliver more than just great looks and top fuel economy of any vehicle in its segment when it goes on sale in North America in 2010. The 2011 Fiesta - available in four- and five-door body styles - also will set a new small car benchmark for safety, connectivity and powertrain technology.

In fact, Ford Fiesta will offer North American buyers a stylish new choice of 15 class-exclusive technologies and projected highway fuel economy of 40 mpg, besting the Honda Fit, Nissan Versa and Toyota Yaris and Corolla.
"Customers are savvy. They want expressive cars that deliver not just great fuel economy but also high quality, new technologies and a fun driving experience," said Mark Fields, Ford president of The Americas. "We plan to answer the call with Ford Fiesta; an all-new vehicle in North America we hope will set a new standard for small cars."
Ford Fiesta is the next milestone under the ONE Ford plan to design and develop vehicles that meet the differing needs, wants and expectations of customers around the world. More than 500,000 Fiestas have already sold to customers in Europe and Asia.

When developing the new Fiesta, Ford conducted extensive global customer research. Findings clearly indicated the need for style topped the list of customer desires everywhere in the world. In Europe, across North America and in the Asia Pacific region, customers are looking for a distinctively designed small car that offers world-class quality, convenience, comfort and connectivity.
"Ford Fiesta was developed with customers, not just for them," said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president for global product development. "Fuel economy, spirited performance and efficient use of space are universal desires, across global markets - and Ford Fiesta delivers."
The anticipated new Ford Fiesta arrives in North America with strong consumer awareness, thanks to the Fiesta Movement program. With 100 social media mavens chronicling their experiences of driving European market Fiestas on American roads, Fiesta has generated more than 675,000 Flickr views and more than 5.5 million YouTube video views.
Kinetics and aesthetics
Kinetic design imparts a sense of movement - even while standing still - harmonizing character elements to reflect global Ford identity, enabling Ford Fiesta to project its own air of confidence, style and individuality. Fiesta targets a youthful "design progressive" mind-set, a consumer group that values style and diversity as worthy assets.
"These influential, prospective Ford Fiesta customers relate to the design philosophy of 'energy in motion' because it reflects their personal outlook and lifestyle," said Kevin George, Ford Fiesta design manager.
Up front, Ford Fiesta sports the global Ford face, centering the Blue Oval badge on the grille over the signature inverted trapezoid lower grille opening. These subtle cues engender familiarity across the portfolio, providing aesthetic linkage between the distinctive new Ford Taurus, the fuel-efficient midsize Fusion and the bold Fiesta.
Adding eyes to the Ford Fiesta face are sweeping, elongated headlamps that frame and connect the hood to muscular, sculpted front fenders. Available in sporty five-door hatchback or four-door sedan body styles, Ford Fiesta provides ample space for occupants and their gear.
At the rear of the car, many design elements merge, including the chamfered rear liftgate glass, the low roofline sweeping into a spoiler and dramatic taillamps with honeycomb detailing mounted high in the five-door's corners. Muscular rear quarter panels, wrapped tightly, draw the eye to the wheels and Ford Fiesta's confident stance.
The Ford Fiesta design is further enhanced with a choice of nine vivid new colors. From Bright Magenta through Lime Squeeze to Blue Flame, Fiesta's broad color palette - more available colors than any other segment competitors - instills vibrant individuality.
Inside Ford Fiesta
Ford Fiesta is as dramatic on the inside as it is on the outside. Boldly sculpted surfaces, contrasting colors and comfortable, supportive materials make the interior as individual as the driver.
The instrument panel centerstack - focal point of the new Fiesta interior - was designed to feel as useful and familiar as the keypad on a mobile phone.
The North American Ford Fiesta features first-row bucket seats with a 60/40 split second-row seat. Cloth or leather seating surfaces vary by trim level offering comfort, style and individuality. High series Ford Fiestas also offer leather with sporty contrast accent color piping.
Soft, sculptured surfaces and the centerstack layout provide the Ford Fiesta with a sense of harmony. Intuitive switchgear placement, comfort zone seating and available ambient lighting allow a driver to maximize the mood with seven complementary colors - switchable among three levels of intensity - for interior accent lighting.
And Ford Fiesta keeps it green; 25 percent of volume-series SE seat fabric inserts are comprised of recycled content.
Fun, with fuel efficiency
Ford Fiesta's flowing sculpted hood covers a 1.6-liter DOHC I-4 engine with an estimated 119 horsepower and 109 ft.-lbs. of torque. Spirited performance and fuel-efficient economy are signature attributes with the Ford Fiesta expected to deliver best-in-class fuel economy at 40 mpg.
Ford Fiesta's advanced 1.6-liter engine features Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) allowing the engine to be downsized for fuel economy while continuously optimizing camshaft phasing for throttle response, performance and flexibility.
Big results from a small package are possible with several new technologies in this new global engine, including an advanced new front end accessory drive (FEAD) belt with stretchy dynamics to improve the engine's thermal dynamics. The elasticity in this new drive belt eliminates the need for a belt tensioner and contributes to overall fuel economy.
Ford Fiesta features a standard five-speed manual transaxle with gear ratios selected to offer spirited off-the-line performance and exceptional fuel economy for drivers who desire three pedals and a stick shift to maximize driving experience.
Specially tuned front struts, bushings, dampers, stabilizer bars and a rear twist-beam axle keep Ford Fiesta sure-footed and firmly planted. Sporty, European driving dynamics prevail.
Automatically game-changing
An available all-new North American industry-exclusive PowerShift six-speed automatic transmission combines the responsive performance and fuel economy of a manual transmission with the convenience of a traditional automatic in one advanced, dual dry-clutch package.
"Fuel economy leaders have traditionally been manual shift models," said Pierro Aversa, team leader for transmissions. "Ford Fiesta changes the game by offering an advanced PowerShift six-speed automatic that delivers maximum fuel economy."
Twin internal clutches keep the PowerShift in constant mesh, always optimizing for maximum responsiveness or fuel efficiency, depending on input received from the driver's foot on the accelerator pedal.
This "dry" transmission operates with sealed internal lubrication, reducing internal friction and adding to Ford Fiesta fuel economy. The lack of pumps and hoses reduces under-hood complexity, saves weight and also contributes to fuel efficiency.
PowerShift has been proven in Ford's European market and will redefine North American small car segment expectations for responsive shifting and fuel efficiency.
Power steering conserves fuel
For confidence-inspiring on-road dynamics, Ford Fiesta features Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS) which reduces complexity while saving weight and fuel. This advanced system is speed-sensitive - providing optimized assist based on speed, cornering forces and acceleration or deceleration.
Ford is aggressively moving to EPAS across its product lineup. The system already is available in several Ford, Lincoln and Mercury nameplates, and by 2013 nearly 90 percent of Ford's lineup will offer this fuel saving technology.
EPAS also includes Pull-Drift Compensation to help Ford Fiesta track true regardless of road crown or side wind conditions. In addition, active nibble control helps detect and compensate for tire balance irregularity. Both features - enabled by EPAS - are class-exclusives.
Strength, safety, quality and quiet
More than 50 percent of Ford Fiesta's welded body structure is made from high-strength steel, with ultra-strong boron steel used in several critical areas. This rigid body shell contributes to Fiesta's confident road-holding, best-in-class occupant safety and quiet composure.
Ford Fiesta safety is enhanced by an array of features including dual-stage first-row air bags, a class-exclusive driver's knee air bag, side air bags and side curtain air bags. AdvanceTrac with ESC (Electronic Stability Control) is standard on Ford Fiesta, along with seat belt pretensioners, rear door child safety locks and a Safety Canopy system.
Tested and proven on virtually every continent where you can drive a car, Ford Fiesta arrives with proven quality and customer readiness.
"For North America, the global Ford Fiesta was tweaked, not re-designed or re-developed." said Steve Pintar, chief engineer. "We built on the success of the European Ford Fiesta and are really proud of how little has changed."
Fiesta NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) control is taken to a new level of quiet for this segment, helped in part by a specially laminated, class-exclusive windshield that was chosen to help absorb and contain noise. Engine noise is subdued by a hood blanket, with enhanced door seals keeping wind noise minimized.
Special padding behind the instrument panel and foam baffles mounted inside the pillars keeps Ford Fiesta quiet. Even the headliner material was specified for its sound-deadening qualities.
Much of Ford Fiesta's sound-absorbent materials are comprised of recycled content, helping to conserve resources as it preserves peace and quiet. In addition, Ford Fiesta aerodynamics contributes to both NVH control and fuel efficiency.
Features and functionality
From class-exclusive automatic climate control to a standard aux input, Ford Fiesta offers customers a number of standard and available features that increase convenience and add connectivity. Among them is Ford SYNC, integrating a driver's mobile phone with Fiesta's onboard, voice- activated communications and entertainment system.
Ford Fiesta also offers keyless entry and push button start, a feature unique within the segment. Drivers of all sizes can adjust the tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel to suit their individual preferences. Reflecting Ford Fiesta's versatility and adaptability, adjustable cup holders can accommodate Red Bull cans and Big Gulps along with every container size in between.
Ford Fiesta also features Ford's EasyFuel Capless Fuel-Filler System, a North American industry- exclusive, as standard equipment.
Ford Fiesta sales success
Ford Fiesta is continuing its sales momentum as Europe's No. 2-selling car and Ford of Europe's top-selling vehicle, helping increase Ford's share in Europe's main 19 markets. More than 500,000 Fiestas have been sold since the car was launched last autumn. In Europe, the Fiesta name has long been synonymous with outstanding drive quality, design and value. It's winning enthusiastic media reviews in Asia. Now, the all-new Ford Fiesta offers North American consumers a stylish, fuel-efficient alternative.

After a further 15 per cent increase in power over this stage 1' engine and with over 50 kg reduced from the chassis, overall performance is set to meet Mugens original targets.

That achieved 0-60mph in 6.6 seconds, and the team says the test version has already passed that, thanks to a hike in power to 200bhp and 245Nm of torque.

The regular 1.5 i-VTEC engine develops 113bhp, while Mugen's bolting on a supercharger and fettling the IMA hybrid system for nearer 200bhp and 181lb ft. And Mugen's dieticians have stripped out 50kg of unnecessary heft, to make the CR-Z more agile. The bonnet is made from carbonfibre while the wheels are lightweight Mugen alloys.

Mugen also has upgraded handling and performance, fitting adjustable shocks and large disc brakes, increasing track and reducing weight. Mugen GP 17-inch forged alloy wheels are part of an exterior package that includes front and rear airdams, side skirts and a rear wing.
