Playstation 4 Clear

via Yanko Design by Chris Burns

Playstation 4 Clear by Tai Chiem

Forget all your Playstation 3s. Forget your Playstation 3 thin models with multiple lovely colors, forget even the earlier design by this same designer, Tai Chiem, that PSP 2 concept he whipped up last year, no! Check this thang out. Its the Playstation 4. Tai Chiems Playstation 4 concept: thats how you know its wild. And with clear material and minimalistic aesthetics in play, youve got one Tai-tastic amalgamation, to be sure.

SO! PS4! Whatve we got here? Bluetooth integration, plastic/glass backs and middles. LCD screen(s) on both the controller and the system itself. The same classic aesthetic bone structure for the controller that PS has always had. The same ability to turn the system on its side (I always thought that was a super-simple super-genius feature of the PS series.) And the continuation of the standard CD disk size for games.

PlayStation Eye Research - Auto Generated Avatars

via Gizmodo by Danny Allen

Sony Labs has demoed some advanced facial recognition that it's researching for the PlayStation Eye. The system figures-out gender, knows where you're facing, and even tracks mouth movement. And eventually, the tech will make its way into new PS3 games.

Sony Labs has been researching this technology for a while. I think most people are familiar with it from Smile Shutter in the Sony CyberShot, and autofocus with face detection. But now, we've migrated this technology to PS3, and made it available as an SDK.

Through its various points of detection, the system can recognize individual faces and overlay a different model for each person. And that's where things get a little more interesting.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness

via Gizmodo by Mark Wilson

Points for being different, I guess. Sony Ericsson's Xperia Pureness spruces up an otherwise ordinary phone with an extraordinary, clear LCD.

We have no details other than its "talk, text, time" theme and what we can('t) see: the Xperia is a no-frills candybar with a transparent, monochrome LCD screen.

You'll notice that in the video, the black buttons aren't even labeled with numbers. I actually prefer this absurdly minimal design to the still product render, however impractical, as it takes a phone designed purely to be striking and makes it even more striking.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 Official

via Gizmodo by matt buchanan

Hard to believe Sony Ericsson's Xperia X2 wasn't official until this momenthonestly, we care more about the awesome the Android-powered X3 at this pointbut Sony just made it real, it running Windows Mobile 6.5.

The hard specs: 3.2-inch WVGA touchscreen, 8.1MP camera, HSPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, TV-out. And oh yes, the panels custom interface on top of Windows Mobile is back, though refined, as we saw earlier. It'll be out later this year for 699 euros, so um, not cheap if it ever comes to the US.

Octopus Cable Charges 10 Devices for Just $10

via Gizmodo by Mark Wilson

There are USB cords and there are USB cords...and there are USB cords with like 10 different adapters coming out. But rarely are such monstrosities this cheap.

The $10 Octopus USB Cable has 10 different tentacles (ignore the fact that octopi usually have 8) to charge pretty much any mobile device you could ownmost probably at a rate of 1 at a time. Specifically, that mix includes:

 Nokia 2.06mm (or 2mm)
 Nokia 3.5mm
 Sony PSP
Motorola (V3 series) & HTC and other phones using USB Mini 5 pin as a charging port
 Micro USB (for Motorola V8)
 LG
 Samsung (20P (s))
 Samsung (20P (M))
 Sony Ericsson Fast Port
iPhone / iPod (for charging and data)

SONY 2TB MemoryStick XC Is Just Insane

via Gizmodo by Danny Allen on 8/5/09

Could the MemoryStick become relevant again? While Toshiba readies its 64GB SDXC cards, Sony is prepping its very likely backwards-compatible 2TB Memory Stick XC. The implications for devices like netbooks and SSDs could be huge.

Toshiba's SDXC and Sony's MSXC both have claimed maximum transfer speeds of up to 60 megabytes per second, but the latter's 2TB capacitydeveloped with the help of SanDiskis just crazy. The biggest Memory Stick PRO is 32GB. And while the PRO series uses the FAT12/16/32 file system, we now know the XC range will use the more efficient exFAT.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X2

viaGizmodoby John Herrman on 6/11/09

You'd be forgiven for doubting, or at least being disappointed with, thefirst blurry shots of the Xperia X2,Sony Ericsson's rumored followup to thepricey-but-pretty X1. Today, we get a much better look.

The first thing that jumps out here, aside from the phone's tastefully designed brushed aluminum shell, isWindows Mobile 6.5's finger-friendly visage: indicationthough not confirmationthat this'll be one of the first wave of major 6.5 handsets, alongsidepreviously-announced hardwarefrom HTC. But above all, this means no Android, probably. Oh well!

The keyboard has a distinctive look too, bearing more resemblance to a full-size PC keyboard than a cellphone keypad. Hopefully the changes are strictly aesthetic, seeing as the previous model's keypad was one of its strongest points. Sadly, the original source isn't saying a whole lot about his device beyond what we can observe for ourselves, so for now, we simply gaze.

Sony Black Tribute

viaYanko Designby Radhika Seth on 5/6/09

Concepts and Apple dont go hand in hand, however that hasnt deterred designers from conjuring up iterations to challenge the stalwart. The latest challenge is aimed at disturbing the iPhone mania on three simple grounds; an appealing faade, discreet buttons and ample screen. The Sony Black Tribute that we see here, woos you with its ultra-wide screen and hot looks. Finished in aluminum with a satin touch; this phone scores well in the looks department. Unfortunately there are no tech-specs (apart from 3.2 mp cam) that we can boast about.

With challenging concept designs like the IntelMID(heavy-duty tech specs) and this Sony Black Tribute (gorgeous looks) popping up every now and then, there is every bit chance that we see Apple hitting us square in the face this summer, with a bombastic piece that is a mish-mash of such designs!

Sony Has a Heart After All

viaGizmodoby John Mahoney on 3/31/09

Even if it's this creepy, pulsating rig assembled from gutted Bravias, Walkmen and VAIO for a British football commercial. But where is all the blood?
