Luxury Cars Global

According to the European Commission, the "luxury vehicle" segment is classified as F-segment. However, the boundaries between the traditional segments are increasingly becoming blurred and diluted as features once exclusive to luxury vehicles become standard equipment on even small cars.

* ACRISS is a code system used by many car rental companies in the US for classifying vehicles (but not brands or marques). The system includes Luxury and Premium categories.
* Australia In Australia, for taxation purposes a luxury car is defined as a passenger car whose value exceeds a certain threshold.
* Germany: In Germany the term "Upper class" (German: Oberklasse) is used.
* Russia: Russian markets use the term "representative class vehicle" (Russian: ?????????? ?????????????????? ??????, also translated as "luxury vehicle").
* United States Consumer Guide's categorization which sorts luxury vehicles by size acknowledges that there can be considerable price variations within a class; for instance the Lincoln Town Car has a relatively low MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) compared to the BMW 7 Series, Lexus LS, or Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

Jay Leno's EcoJet

jay leno ecojet

For all those who believe Jay lenos fleet of cars is responsible for global warming, EcoJet has come out as a jab. Television host, comedian, and well-known car enthusiast, Jay Lenos biodiesel-powered EcoJet has recently claimed its fame with its ability to run on biodiesel and at the same time putting out an impressive 750 horsepower and 700 ft-lb of torque at 48,000 RPM from its Honeywell LT101 jet turbine engine. Covered in carbon fiber is an aluminum chassis kept in contact with the ground using existing suspension bits from the Chevrolet Corvette along with a four-speed automatic transmission from General Motors that minimizes engine speed down to 6,000 rpm. Adding to the luxury is its special carbon fiber brake discs from Brembo paired up with aluminum six-piston calipers and something new to the luxury is the Microsoft built dash, including a full Windows Vista-powered computer, of course, fully connected to the internet.

We are sure you would like to see how fast this beast can go. Check out the EcoJets race against a private jet in the video below:

Porsche Design's 135-foot Catamaran Megayacht

via Born Rich by Nandini

rff-porschedesign-03

It turns out that Drives not the only one to break away from the stereotypical yacht design, Porsche Design Group is taking the lead into designing one shaped like a spacecraft for real, together with Singapore-based megayacht builder Royal Falcon Fleet, which we have earlier reported in September 2008. The RFF135 is their first joint venture which has reached the first milestone of the construction. Though this power catamaran is nothing like Drives 125m superyacht concept, which boasts of over-the-top luxury spectacles with a helipad, sunken pool on the deck and a rear mounted Jacuzzi, you simply cant take away the art of luxury design from Porsche Design. Conceived as a spacecraft on the water, this 41.2 meter yacht is particularly extraordinary in every detail. Our newest project once again demonstrates that our design, outstanding in many ways, is setting trends in numerous fields. With the first Royal Falcon Fleet yacht, we are building a bridge to the Porsche Design Sport textile collection that was developed specifically for the maritime area, says Dr. Jrgen Geler, CEO of Porsche Design Group. The interior is styled in a highly modern way and captures the dynamic contours of the hull. And the megayacht will have enough space to accommodate 10 guests and 10 crew members below decks in 472 square meters of area, with another 208 square meters of deck space up top. The yacht will achieve a speed of 35 knots. The launch of this first Royal Falcon Fleet power catamaran designed by Porsche Design is planned for the fourth quarter of 2010.

via Born Rich by Pankaj

When you combine the ravenous demand for luxury goods with the squandered riches of Middle East, theres simply no end to the potential for outright hysteria. Replacing everything that is luxurious, cocooned right in the land of the luxury cars, Golden Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano by Hamann sets the road ablaze. Finished in gold, the Ferrari features a new bodykit, subtle Hamann spoilers, an extra 53 HP, new wheels and hp.

Indeed, this highly pimped gilded Ferrari would have been a miss where the royals roam. Check out the pics after the jump:

The 118 WallyPower Yacht

The 118 Wallypower Yacht is a sleek design merging high technology and tradition made by the Monaco based boat maker Wally. The boat has a vertical bow and aerodynamic styling that is almost military like. The sides of the boat are characterized by large faceted air intakes that give the boat its unique profile.

On board the boat is capable of traversing rough waters at up to 60 knots with luxury comfort that rivals the most high end yachts. The bow and stern both feature wooden decks. Under the hood the boat has three gas turbine engines providing 16,800 horse power. There is seating and dining space at the front and back and a covered cockpit also features a conference table, lounge and access to below the deck.

There are a total of five cabins, accommodating 6 guests and six crew members. If you are thinking of spending the last few weeks of summer on the 118 Wallypower Yacht you might want to start saving now since the boat sells for 24.83 million USD.

Bentley Mulsanne

Bentley Mulsanne

First previewed during the last weeks as the Grand Bentley, the Mulsanne is inspired by the company founder W.O. Bentleys crowning achievement in 1930, the 8-litre.

And it was W.O.s own sensitively conserved company car that shared the podium with the new Mulsanne in Pebble Beach.

This early motoring masterpiece represented the last big Bentley that was designed, engineered and built from the ground up by Bentley engineers until now.

Conceived, styled and engineered entirely at Bentleys headquarters in Crewe, England, the Mulsanne, with its completely new and unique platform, goes into production next year in a new manufacturing facility within the Crewe factory.

Bentley Mulsanne

Introducing the Bentley Mulsanne at Pebble Beach, Dr. Franz-Josef Paefgen, Chairman and Chief Executive of Bentley Motors, said: The challenge we set our engineers was to create a new grand Bentley that would stand as the pinnacle of British luxury motoring, offering the worlds most exclusive driving experience.

"They have responded to this challenge with real passion and the result is a luxury grand tourer that sets new standards in terms of comfort, effortless performance and hand-crafted refinement the very qualities for which Bentley is renowned.

The Bentley design team, lead by Dirk van Braeckel, have created a flagship that offers the classic sporting, styling cues long-associated with Bentley expressed in a thoroughly contemporary way.

Bentley Mulsanne

From the very first hand sketches in the styling studio, we were inspired by the traditions of the grand touring Bentleys and have sought to evolve this story for a new generation of Bentley enthusiasts.

The return of the Mulsanne name to a car carrying Bentleys iconic Winged B emblem underlines the companys racing pedigree and nowhere reflects that heritage better than the famed Le Mans circuit, the scene of no fewer than six Bentley triumphs. Few places offer a stronger or more emotive connection with the Bentley marque than the famed Mulsanne corner.

The Bentley Mulsanne will go on sale from mid 2010. It will also be displayed at the forthcoming IAA Frankfurt Motor Show (15-27th September, 2009).
