Dalian Stadium

NBBJ has finalized their proposal for the new Dalian Shide Football Stadium in Dalian, China. The structure is designed with principles of organic architecture in mind, modeling itself after a garden by having only what is needed to thrive.

The design imagines if the ground were folded open to create two garden walls to contain the venue. This concept creates a strong visual impact and leaves both ends open to overlook the ocean and mountains nearby. The exterior of the walls are clad with living plants that naturally change colour throughout the year, while the inside features giant LED panels. A roof made from a flexible cable
system covers the stadium and is interwoven with fabric to shield the fans from the elements.

The design is an attempt to improve the in-stadium experience, rather than focus on the exterior form like many other modern stadiums. The stadium will have 40,000 seats and intends to set a new standard for sustainable stadium architecture.

Hydration Protection Snowsports Wear

via Yanko Design by Radhika Seth on 7/21/09

One of the biggest bnummers of any sport is the fear of injury from falls and winter sports are no different. Here is a jacket that proposes to act as a protective gear against those accidental slips on the ice, which can be really painful. The design includes an impact chamber filled with water and air that acts as a cushioning. On impact, the air is pushed up the back channel and into the dissipation chamber situated around the jackets neck, inflating it. Wear it and show off your stunts, without fear!

Since the neck area gets inflated, it offers a certain degree of whiplash protection and support. Its a good idea to fill in drinkable water into the chamber; coz once youre knocked down you may want to replenish yourself with some.

Motorola's W7 Active Edition Is Controlled With Hand Gestures

viaGizmodoby Sean Fallon on 5/11/09

As the name suggests, Motorola's neww7 Active Editionslider is targeted at sporty types, but the physical effort does not stop with the built-in pedometer and personal trainer application.

It appears that Moto is jumping on the accelerometer bandwagon big time with this oneusers can control functions on the phone with simple hand gestures:

Shake up your everyday phone experience by controlling MOTO W7 using simple hand gestures, taps and flicks. Flip the phone over to silence the ringer of an incoming call, snooze the alarm clock or pause the music. Shake twice to instantly launch your favorite application, such as the music player. When showing off your photo albums or music libraries, flick the phone right or left to move between songs and images.

The Moto W7 also features a 2.0 megapixel camera and it runs on a 3G networkalthough it appears that only customers in Asia and Latin America will be able to get their hands on one in the foreseeable future. [Motorola]
