Jay Leno's EcoJet

jay leno ecojet

For all those who believe Jay lenos fleet of cars is responsible for global warming, EcoJet has come out as a jab. Television host, comedian, and well-known car enthusiast, Jay Lenos biodiesel-powered EcoJet has recently claimed its fame with its ability to run on biodiesel and at the same time putting out an impressive 750 horsepower and 700 ft-lb of torque at 48,000 RPM from its Honeywell LT101 jet turbine engine. Covered in carbon fiber is an aluminum chassis kept in contact with the ground using existing suspension bits from the Chevrolet Corvette along with a four-speed automatic transmission from General Motors that minimizes engine speed down to 6,000 rpm. Adding to the luxury is its special carbon fiber brake discs from Brembo paired up with aluminum six-piston calipers and something new to the luxury is the Microsoft built dash, including a full Windows Vista-powered computer, of course, fully connected to the internet.

We are sure you would like to see how fast this beast can go. Check out the EcoJets race against a private jet in the video below:

Samsung's Holographic Gesture-Based Technology

via Gizmodo by Dan Nosowitz on 7/22/09

At the announcement of their new superfast Jet phone, Samsung used used Project Natal-esque holographic gestures for effect. The Jet seems cool, but we just want to hear more about the holographic gimmickry!

Designed by Korean firm D'strict, the tech is a combination of infrared motion sensing and 3D imagery, pretty much like Microsoft's Project Natal. It's not quite as seamless as Natal, but given that it's main purpose is just to add a little flash to a cellphone announcement, we're awfully impressedand distracted. Check out the video below for a clip of one of the announcements, and you'll see what we mean. [Fast Company]

New Drilling Technology Now In Testing Stages

via Gizmodo by Jesus Diaz on 6/15/09

If everything goes well, soon we will be able to reach the center of the Earth using 7200F flame jets that can go into any kind of material at 100 feet an hour. Wait, "if everything goes well"?

Yes, apparently this is a great idea because it can be the key to obtain cheap geothermal power. These drillscreated by Jared Potterwill go deep into Mother Earth to reach the magma to make geothermal energy wells. The magma will be used then to superheat water and produce electricity using steam and turbinesforever and eversomething that is impossible now even with today's state-of-the-art drilling technology.

Unlike current drilling methods, the flame-jets make holes without touching the rock itself. Potter has two prototypes so far, both with the same results. The first fires a 3200F hydrogen flame to heat the rock, making cracks that expand into a full hole in a matter of minutes. The other one superheats a jet of water at 7200F and can work at super-deep levels, with extreme pressures.

They are both in the preliminary testing stages, but as you can see in the video, they show promise. If they work, it will be great idea withhopefullygreat benefits for all of mankind.
