WHY Wally-Hermes Yachts

While the yacht lovers are still drooling over Roman Abramovichs Eclipse, the Monaco-based yacht maker, Wally has quietly gone into bed with the prestigious luxury brand Hermes to give shape to a revolutionary yacht design. WHY Wally-Hermes Yacht has an air of exclusivity to it that you would expect from this rarefied collaboration. This revolutionary yacht is developed with the latest and most advanced sustainable technologies, recycling thermal energy, as well as any organic and inorganic waste without compromising on its luxury aspects. The 38-meter-wide yacht takes the WallyIsland concept forward with dramatic silhouette that comes with a triangular hull shape that doesnt features a superstructure. The interior of the yacht is fitted with water resistant buffalo leather using the calpinage technique. The luxuries on board include a 25-meter interior swimming pool, three decks and a 36-meter beach along the back.

The environmental and ecological advantages are also a strong point of WHY. The yacht is powered using a diesel electric engine and it features a surface of the photovoltaic panels measuring 900 square meters covering the roof and sides of the vessel to provide solar electricity which is sufficient to subsist the power needs of the boat. Different sources of energy are managed by a central computer. The yacht has been tested in Gothenburg, Sweden, in a specialized tank testing facility, to see how it would perform in big seas. This innovative concept was developed by president and CEO of Wally Luca Bassani Antivari, artistic director of Hermes, Pierre-Alexis Dumas and design director of Hermes Gabriele Pezzini.

via Born Rich by Nandini

It turns out that Drives not the only one to break away from the stereotypical yacht design, Porsche Design Group is taking the lead into designing one shaped like a spacecraft for real, together with Singapore-based megayacht builder Royal Falcon Fleet, which we have earlier reported in September 2008. The RFF135 is their first joint venture which has reached the first milestone of the construction. Though this power catamaran is nothing like Drives 125m superyacht concept, which boasts of over-the-top luxury spectacles with a helipad, sunken pool on the deck and a rear mounted Jacuzzi, you simply cant take away the art of luxury design from Porsche Design. Conceived as a spacecraft on the water, this 41.2 meter yacht is particularly extraordinary in every detail. Our newest project once again demonstrates that our design, outstanding in many ways, is setting trends in numerous fields. With the first Royal Falcon Fleet yacht, we are building a bridge to the Porsche Design Sport textile collection that was developed specifically for the maritime area, says Dr. Jrgen Geler, CEO of Porsche Design Group. The interior is styled in a highly modern way and captures the dynamic contours of the hull. And the megayacht will have enough space to accommodate 10 guests and 10 crew members below decks in 472 square meters of area, with another 208 square meters of deck space up top. The yacht will achieve a speed of 35 knots. The launch of this first Royal Falcon Fleet power catamaran designed by Porsche Design is planned for the fourth quarter of 2010.

HIGH SEAS HYBRID LUXURY

viaYanko Designby Anthony James on 6/3/09

This is one lean, mean and green floating machine. Part stealth fighter, part 007 fantasy, this 47 foot CODE X Yacht by Swiss Yacht builder CODE X, is a catamaran style power yacht that is not only ubber-luxurious but a technological wet dream. Packed with the latest in LED touchscreen control panels that delivers complete automated control over such things like the solar/hybrid power system to the GPS-controlled virtual anchor system that utilises the electric motors to maintain a stationary position regardless of wind or currents. If you get tired of saving the planet and creeping around in near silent mode, you can rock the docks with the twin Ilmor Formula One engines, delivering a hefty 710hp. This Swiss design features a Kevlar/carbon shell with phototropic-shaded windows. The deck is UV-resistant with a heat-repellent shell ensuring you are hotter than your ride.

Ocean Emerald timeshare yacht designed by Norman Foster is hot, pointy, costly

Ocean Emerald timeshare yacht designed by Norman Foster is hot, pointy, costly

In these crunchy times, even the super-rich are having a torrid time of it. So what better than a share in a $24-millionyachtdesigned byNorman Foster, theBritish uber-architect of the past 20 years? For $2,485,000, you'll get 30 nights a year on the 134-foot yacht, which has been built at the Rodriquez Cantieri Navale yard in Italy to Foster + Partners' specifications.

Fittings are by Cassina, and kitchen and galley equipment by Schiffini (like anyone who rents this baby is even going to see the kitchen there are seven crew thrown in with the eight-year deal, as well as transport, including private jet and helicopter transfers at each end of your holiday.) And should you worry about being in close proximity to the same people for a month, there's over 5,000 square feet of internal and external space, not to mention the ease in which you could "lose" the most annoying member of your party overboard.

When your time is up, anyone who hasn't been prised off the deck screaming, "I don't want to leave, it's mine, mine, I tell you," will get their share of the proceeds from the sale, which is expected to recoup around 60 per cent of the yacht's original value. I will just remind you of the old adage, "If it floats or flies rent, don't buy."
