Alienware Quad-Core M15x Laptop

Alienware quad-core m15x laptop called \'world\'s fastest\'

Intel's Core i7 processor kicks ass, as we already know. Alienware is busting out an update to its M15x laptop today with the new mobile version of i7, which is to be officially unveiled today at Intel's Developer Conference.

The 15-inch Alienware M15x, which was introduced back in January, is a mobile gamer's paradise. You now have a choice of the speediest Intel mobile processors, including a 1.6 GHz Intel Core i7 720QM, a 1.73GHz Intel Core i7 820QM, and finally the world's fastest mobile processor, a 2GHz Intel Core i7 920XM. The illuminating wonder of a notebook will be configurable with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M GPU (with 1GB of RAM) and up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM to take on the harshest of games.

As for aesthetics the main chassis appears the same, though you can now get it in metallic red, silver or black. And for those that love to game after dark the entire body lights up customizable color accents.

Shockingly the price is actually pretty reasonable for a high end gaming system. It will start at $1,500 and it will be configurable on Dell.com. It will ship for now with Vista and with Windows 7 come October 22.

Toshiba Qosmio X500

This big 18.4-incher with Windows 7 has plenty for gamers to drool over. A Core i7 mobile processor and 1GB Nvidia GeForce GTS 250M graphics should crunch out respectable framerates, and the Blu-ray drive and Harmon/Kardon speakers are nice, too.

Yep, that's Blu-ray on a Toshiba laptop. Don't be shocked, you knew it was coming. The X500 also has an HDMI-CEC port, Harmon/Kardon speakers, a multi-touch touchpad (two-finger pinch, swipe, rotate, scroll), and a LED-backlit keyboard with a 10-key numberpad.

Toshiba says you'll be able to tailor the processor and DDR3 memory (it's still deciding on specifics), opt for a 1080p or 720p-capable screen, and go with either a 7200rpm hard disk on its own, or combined with a solid-state drive. We'll know full specs and pricing sometime in mid-October.

Looks like a pretty decent addition to the Qosmio family, but you'll have to wait until Windows 7 arrives on October 22 to get your hands on one.

UMID M2 has Windows 7 and 1GB RAM

UMID is showing off its upgrade to the M1 ultra mobile PC. The M2 runs Windows 7 (instead of XP), faster 1.2Ghz or 1.6GHz Atom processors, and no longer needs USB port dongles.

And while the M1 costs $600 with a 1.33GHz processor and 512MB memory, the upcoming M2 is expected to be $400 when it arrives around November. It will use the same keyboard and 4.8-inch (1024x600) screen, but design changes improve the screen angle, add an optical mouse and mouse buttons, and do away with the need for a USB port dongle.

A non-working prototype is felt up in the video below, but we should see the M2 running Windows 7 at IDF later this week.

Asus UL Series Laptops

via Gizmodo by Danny Allen

The new range looks kinda suave, and Asus claims some models get up to 12 hours of battery life. How? They all use Intel's latest ultra-low voltage processors, and let you switch between dedicated and integrated graphics.

I'm generally not a fan of Asus keyboards, so I'm interested to see how the new chiclet style keys feel in use. Likewise for the flush multi-touch mousepad that let you perform Macbook-style gestures (like pinching).

Here's a quick look at how the series breaks down:

 12-1.-inch screen: UL20A
 13.3-inch screen: UL30A
 14-inch screen: UL80V, UL80Ag
 15.6-inch screen: UL50A, UL50Ag, UL50Vg

The UL series supports Windows 7, and should be available around the time of its arrival on October 22. No word yet on pricing. In the meantime, you can check out full specs at ASUS

Nokia Booklet 3G's Full Specs and Price

via Gizmodo by Danny Allen

After teasing its 10.1-inch netbook with 3G and Assisted-GPS, Nokia has confirmed an impressive 16-cell (12-hour) battery and coughed-up full specs: Windows 7, 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor, 120GB hard disk, 1GB RAM, 802.11n Wi-Fi, and HDMI. Price: 575 ($810) before-subsidies.

The Booklet 3G is pretty thin (just 0.78-inches), and will have a hot-swappable SIM card slot and integrated Ovi maps. A built-in accelerometer is also quite interesting, as is the screen resolution: 1280 by 720 (720p).

Usual netbook fare includes Bluetooth, 3 USB slots, an SD card reader and a 1.3-megapixel camera. But it's that amazing-sounding battery life I'm eager to test. The 16-cell Li-Ion unit will also be user-removable. One disappointment: No Nvidia Ion graphics. :(

Nokia Booklet 3G

via Gizmodo by Danny Allen

So Nokia's got a 10-incher with built-in 3G and A-GPS (Ovi Maps) in the works. Interesting, but will it be just-another-netbook? I'd love to see a Nokia touch-screen interface on top of Windows. What about easy tethering with cell phones?

Having some sort of tie-in with Nokia handsets (while not excluding everyone else) isn't a must, but it'd be nice, right? We'll have to wait and see.

Here's what we do know: It'll be "HD ready" and have an Atom processorhopefully that means Nvidia Ion-based. It will also have Wi-Fi, HDMI, and an SD Card reader. With a 12 hour battery and weight of 2.75 pounds, there's some massive potential here, if only on paper.

Problem is we won't know more about its flavor of Windows-or any other specs and pricing-until Nokia World on September 2.

Drawing Tablet Laptop Concept by Victor Bivol

Wait! Dont get your pants in a twist! This is actually a much more advanced design than the title would have you believe! The Koala Pad was a drawing tablet produced and distributed in the 1980s for Apple IIe computers and Atari and all sort of super neat stuff like that. Well heres something not only super neat, but super new! A fully-integrated tablet-in-laptop concept, for you new-agers!

Im sure you remember the oldest drawing pad, the Koala, if you went to school when the Apple IIe was the main model. I do. I thought that drawing tablet was the greatest invention ever invented.

For some, that thought stayed strong. Inventors, illustrators, designers, and artists galore use drawing tablets every day! But theyre a little bit of a hassle. Why? Because theyre a whole other tool youve gotta take out.

But with this tablet/laptop concept from Victor Bivol, weve got total portability! Finally I can get a hot chocolate and double-chocolate brownie in the coffee shop and draw with all the other hipsters in my city.

Maingear eX-L 18: The World's Fastest Laptop

via Gizmodo by Mark Wilson on 7/24/09

I don't know that anyone is going to double check Maingear's claims that their eX-L 18 laptop is the world's quickest. But if the glowing lower back tattoo is any indication, it's as "fast" as any Dell I've met.

The 18.4-inch laptop is powered by configurations including an Intel Core 2 Extreme quad processor, dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M graphics cards, 8GB of RAM, three 2.5" SATA or SSD drives (in RAID if you wish), and Blu-raysetups that start at $3,000 but easily run up to $6,500.

Ports include eSATA, HDMI, USB 2.0, and FireWire, but we know why you're interested. It's the glowiest, most irresistible toy you've spotted since your neighbor's bug zapper.

MSI 15.6-Inch X-Slim X600 Laptop

via Gizmodo by Dan Nosowitz on 6/13/09

We're not really sure about the market for a svelte-yet-comparatively-large-screened laptop like MSI's 15.6-inch X-Slim X600, but now we've got the full spec list so you can decide for yourself.

The sub-inch-thick laptop will be packing one of two variations: One's got a 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Solo proc, 4GB RAM, and a 500GB hard drive, and one will have a 1.2GHz Celeron, 3GB of RAM, and a 320GB hard drive, as well as losing the more powerful version's native Bluetooth. Both will have the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 graphics chipset with 512MB memory and HDMI out, which isn't too shabby, plus Windows Vista and a 6-cell battery.

The laptops are a bit underpowered, though that's the price you pay for such lithe bodies. They'll cost about $1,320 and $1,120 respectively when they're released in Italy at the end of June, and should make their way Stateside in a reasonable timeframe.

Viliv X70: A 7-Inch Netbook Without the Keyboard

viaGizmodoby Mark Wilson on 6/9/09

The Viliv S5 wassort of charmingin its own waya tiny Atom-powered touchscreen MID that went for $599. Well theViliv X70is the S5's bigger cousin, and it runs just $599, too.

Featuring a 7-inch WSVGA screen (that's more than 2 inches larger than the S5), the X70 also includes an Atom 1.2/1.3GHz processor, 16/32GB SSD, optional HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Sirf Star3 GPS, 5-second XP booting and 5.5 rated hours of video playback. And yet the X70 measures less than an inch thick and but 1.4lbs in its anti-heaviness.

I still could never see myself using the keyboardless munchkin, but in case you are interested, Dynamism has the systems on pre-order.

Toshiba'sNETBOOKS, TOSHIBA NB205, TOSHIBA, NB205, LED-BACKLIT, LAPTOPS, HARDWARE First Netbook: LED-Backlit Screen & Monster Battery Life

viaGizmodoby Dan Nosowitz on 6/2/09

Toshiba's NB205, similar to theNB200available in the UK, will be coming to the US, and given Laptop Mag'sglowing recommendationas possibly "the best netbook yet," we've got reason to be excited.

It'll feature the same specs as the NB205: LED-backlit 10.1-inch screen, 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, full-sized keyboard, and Intel's Atom N280 processor, along with the supposed 9-hour, 6-cell battery. Available in late June, the NB205 should come in at an MSRP of $399. [Toshiba]
